Abstract

Kompas.com and Detik.com try to face competition in the online media industry in the form of news commodification. Commodification in short is the process of changing the use value of a product, where the value is determined by how much it is useful to meet individuals or social groups in the form of products that sell well in the market. In addition, news coverage in online media is influenced by the ideology and political economy of the media as seen from the news framing carried out by Kompas.com and Detik.com. News about terrorism is one of the issues sold by Kompas.com and Detik.com, even though the point of view is different. This study is a descriptive study that describes the actual situation to provide explanations and answers to the main problems studied, namely explaining how to commodify FPI reporting with terrorism issues on Kompas.com and Detik.com online media. Kompas.com and Detik.com take advantage of terrorism issues as information that has high selling power, especially by including FPI in every news story, some even make it a headline. This is shown by the appearance of news about the case of the arrest of a terrorist suspected of being a member of the FPI, not only being breaking news that takes hours to report, but the case can also be sold as a broadcast containing light information that distracts the public from stressful issues. become an issue worth consuming every day. Moreover, it mentions that FPI was previously a community organization that had many followers. The enthusiasm of the public in following news developments about terrorism has made news programs a commodity.
