Abstract

In the modern era, beauty and appearance have important values in social culture. The diverse cosmetics market reflects consumer demand for beauty products. However, supervision of imported cosmetic products is still lacking, causing dangerous products to circulate. Indonesia, as a country that has adopted the World Trade Organization (WTO) agreement, faces challenges in monitoring foreign cosmetic products entering the market. This research uses a qualitative approach with a normative legal framework. Data was obtained from various sources, including documents, interviews, and observations. The literature review involves legal literacy which is important in understanding related legal norms. The safety of cosmetic products is the main aspect that consumers must pay attention to. Cosmetic products must meet quality and safety standards and must have a halal certificate. Hazardous ingredients must not be present in cosmetic products. The Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) has an important role in supervising cosmetic products before and after they are marketed. This supervision includes product safety evaluations and point-of-sale inspections. UUPK prohibits business actors from producing and trading products that do not meet standards or do not comply with regulations. This prohibition aims to protect consumers and ensure products on the market are safe.
