Abstract

Pregnancy is a gift that must be maintained as well as possible by paying attention to various factors that can affect pregnancy, one of which is by distancing yourself from free radicals, one of which is the nicotine content contained in cigarettes, both as active smokers and as passive smokers. This study aims to determine the effect of nicotine levels in third trimester pregnant women with the baby's umbilical cord. The research design used is a prospective study (cohort) with a sample of 80 selected by purposive sampling of 20 pregnant women who smoke passively, 20 pregnant women who do not smoke, 20 umbilical cords whose mothers are passive smokers and 20 pregnant women who do not smoke passively. The data collected directly by the researcher includes characteristics consisting of age, parity, nutritional status. Bivariate analysis was used to determine the effect of nicotine levels in third trimester pregnant women on the baby's umbilical cord. The results showed that there was an effect of nicotine levels in third trimester pregnant women on the baby's umbilical cord with a value (p=0.076). The conclusion of this study is that there is a negative correlation between nicotine levels in third trimester pregnant women and the baby's umbilical cord.
