Abstract

This research discusses the important role of pusako land as local wisdom in Minangkabau society in West Sumatra and how Social Sciences (IPS) education can contribute to the preservation of traditional and cultural values. Pusako land, as a matrilineal cultural heritage, is not only an economic resource but also a symbol of togetherness and pride for the Minangkabau people. This research examines the dualism in land ownership involving harato pusako high and harato pusako low, and highlights social and economic changes that affect the value of pusako land. In facing the challenges of globalization and social change, this research highlights the importance of revitalizing traditional values and strengthening the role of traditional leaders. This research uses a literature study method, collecting data from various sources related to Minangkabau culture, land law, and social studies education. The results of this study show that social studies education can be an effective means of instilling local cultural values in the younger generation, especially in West Sumatra, by developing learning materials that integrate these cultural values. In conclusion, understanding and appreciation of pusako land and traditional values is the key to maintaining local wisdom in the midst of globalization, where social studies education plays an important role.
