Application of the STAD Type Cooperative Learning Model to Improve Students' Understanding of Concepts

One of the objectives of learning mathematics is to develop students' skills in solving mathematical problems. Mathematic problem-solving skills requires good ability to understand concepts. The aim of this research is to improve students' ability to understand mathematical concepts in Polynomial through the application of the STAD type cooperative learning model. This research is classroom action research carried out in two cycles on 36 students. Each cycle consists of four stages; planning, implementation, observation and reflection. Regarding the data of students' ability to understand mathematical concepts was obtained through tests of understanding mathematical concepts and is analyzed through descriptive analysis. The results of the research showed that there was an increase in students' conceptual understanding from cycle I 61.57% to cycle II 87.27%. Based on the results of this research, it can be concluded that the STAD type cooperative learning model can improve the ability to understand mathematical concepts in class XI high school students for the 2023/2024 academic year.
