Asy'ariyah thought has an important role in the history of the growth and development of Islamic thought. This article examines the historical background to the emergence of the Ash'ariyah school, the intellectual debates that led to it, and Abu Hasan al-Ash'ari's main contribution in formulating a Sunni theology that balances reason and revelation. Through historical and conceptual analyses, the article discusses the main tenets of Ash'ariyah doctrine, such as the concept of God's nature, absolute will, the position of reason, and human actions in relation to divine providence. Asy'ariyah thought is also examined in the context of its debate with the Mu'tazilah school and its influence on the development of classical and modern Islamic thought. This study shows that the Ash'ariyah school became a synthesis between the Mu'tazilah rational approach and the Ahlussunnah textual approach, which later developed into the foundation of Sunni Islamic theology.
